The benefits of importing data from machinery

  • You can easily and quickly visualize data about field operations as a separate layer in the 'Fields' tab.

  • You can process and convert files from different manufacturers for free.

  • Our algorithm will automatically combine files that correspond to the same operation so you can easily view and evaluate its results.

💡 Please note that in the first version, you can only upload and view operations for fields that have already been added to your OneSoil account. In future versions, we will automatically recognize new fields in your files and suggest adding them along with importing data on operations.

What data can I upload?

In the first version, you can import files with the results of the following field operations:

  • Fertilizer application

  • Planting

  • Tillage

  • Yield map

  • Baling

⏳ In future versions, we plan to visualize other data, such as the results of soil electrical conductivity, VRA maps, soil nutrient analysis data, relief maps, drone images, and more.

What files are supported?

  • Files from the following machinery manufacturers are supported: John Deere, CLAAS, CNH, Trimble, Topcon, Precision Planting, KUHN, Kvernerland, Teknomika, and Müller-Elektronik.

  • Shapefiles: .shp, .gpkg, .geojson (must be uploaded as .zip and .rar archives).

  • The maximum size of a single file is up to 500 MB before extraction or 1 GB after extraction. You can upload several files at once.

💿 How do I upload files of major machinery manufacturers?

When you upload files of major machinery manufacturers, we automatically define the attributes and operations in them. These types of files are uploaded in 3 steps:

  1. Uploading and processing files

  2. Matching operations

  3. Matching crops

Let's look at each step.

1️⃣ Uploading and processing files

  1. Open the 'Import files' tab in the OneSoil web app.

  2. To upload files, drag and drop them into the tab or click the 'Select Files' button.
You can upload multiple files at once with a total size of up to 500 MB before extraction or 1 GB after extraction. In the first version, you can only upload archives in formats such as .zip, .rar, .tar, or .tar.gz.

  3. The app will start processing the files. Processing may not be fast, but you can do other tasks in the meantime. Even if you switch to another tab in the app, processing will still run in the background.

You can monitor the status in the sidebar.

  4. When processing is complete, click 'Continue'. Let's move on to matching operations!

2️⃣ Matching operations

We've done all the work for you: we've identified the operations in the file and grouped different files that contain data about the same operation. You only need to check if everything is correct and fix any inaccuracies if necessary.

We group operations based on time. One group includes the same operations that were performed on the same field for 1-7 days.

Click 'Continue' and move to the last step: matching crops.

3️⃣ Matching crops

It's simple! Just match the crop name from the file with its name in the OneSoil list. This step is available if the file contains crop information.

To complete the import, click the 'Continue' button. Now, it's time to see how the operation was performed!

💿 How to upload shapefiles

When you upload shapefiles, we can't automatically identify the attributes and operations in them. Therefore, if you have machinery files in other formats, try uploading them to avoid having to match attributes and operations manually.

Shapefiles are uploaded in 4 steps:

  1. Uploading and processing files

  2. Matching attributes

  3. Matching operations

These archives should contain .shp, .gpkg, or .geojson files.

  3. The app will start processing the files. Processing may not be fast, but you can do other tasks in the meantime. Even if you switch to another tab in the app, processing will still run in the background.

You can monitor the status in the sidebar.

🔄 An error occurred. Learn more about errors here.

  4. When processing is complete, click 'Continue'. Let's move to matching attributes!

2️⃣ Matching attributes!

When uploading the files, we checked to make sure they were identical. We separate similarly structured files into groups so you don't have to match attributes for each file.

On the left are the names of the attributes supported by OneSoil. On the right, you need to indicate which column inside the file corresponds to the OneSoil attribute.

You are not required to match all attributes, but please note that we will only be able to import and visualize the attributes you have matched.

When you've specified all the necessary attributes for the groups of operations, we can move on to matching their names!

3️⃣ Matching operations

At this step, we automatically match the geometries of operations with the geometries of fields that have been added to your account. Your task is to specify the type of operation in the file. To do so, click 'Select operation' in the first column, then choose the operation's name.

💡 If you don't specify the type of operation, we won't be able to import it.

To help you orient yourself when selecting the operation, you can visualize it in the preview. Simply hover your mouse cursor over the field area. Additionally, the attributes you matched in the previous step will assist you. For example, the 'Yield' attribute indicates the harvest operation.

If one operation is split across multiple files, you can combine them into a single group for visualization. To do this, drag and merge operations into groups.

If the uploaded file contains operations for fields that have not been added to your account, we will show you a relevant notification at the top of the screen. Add these fields to be able to import operations for them.

The hardest part is over. Now, click 'Continue'. If your file contains crop data, we're on the last step: matching crops.

4️⃣ Matching crop

It's simple! Just match the crop name from the file with its name in the OneSoil list. To complete the import, click 'Continue'. Now, it's time to review how the operation was performed.

Data visualization

Once the import is complete, open the 'Fields' tab. Fields with imported operations will be highlighted in the field list with a yellow color and a green icon.

Click on a field from the list and select the desired layer from the menu. You'll be able to view all the attributes that have been added. To see numerical values at different areas in the field, hover your mouse cursor over the field.

🛑 Troubleshooting

  • The archive format is not supported
This means that the file format is currently not compatible with OneSoil. Please upload .zip, .rar, .tar, or .tar.gz archives. Please contact our support team to share the file format that isn't supported yet. We'll do our best to add it ASAP!

  • Failed to open the archive
This means that there are issues with the original file, and we cannot process it. Please try to upload data in a .zip, .rar, .tar, or .tar.gz archive. If that doesn't help, contact support through the in-app chat and send us the file. We will help figure out what's wrong.

  • File/archive is too large
Your archive is more than 500 MB compressed or more than 1 GB uncompressed.

  • Failed to find data to import
It seems that there is no field operation data in the archive. Please check the contents of the archive.

  • Upload failed. Try again
Something went wrong :-( Please try uploading the file again.

If that doesn't help, contact support through the in-app chat and send the file. We will investigate how to fix this.

  • Failed to process the file
Please try to upload data in a .zip, .rar, .tar, or .tar.gz archive.
