Your location is determined by the GPS module inside your smartphone. The accuracy can be improved by using specialized hardware or by moving to an open area where it's easy for the phone to find a lot of satellites and/or Wi-Fi points.

The typical accuracy of modern GPS receivers in the horizontal plane is approximately 6-8 meters if the receivers use correction algorithms to eliminate potential errors and there aren't any obstructions to the satellite signal. In the USA, Canada, Japan, China, the European Union and India, there are WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS and other stations that transmit corrections for the differential mode, which reduces the error to 1-2 meters in the territory of these countries.
